The Gift

The birth of the third in line to the throne (UK) is very exciting for me (I was praying all day for a safe delivery); there's a kinda joy that fills my heart when I hear someone has given birth to a baby. Babies just have that effect on you, don't they?

(Let me tell you a little secret though , a secret people shy away from- when babies first come out of the womb, they look weird  and look a bit like aliens.... shhhhhhh don't tell anyone)

Anyway seeing the baby, reminded me of the birth of my son who took unnecessarily long to come out, and don't even get me started on what the doctors did BUT at the end of it all when I finally got to hold him- it was amazing! I'm not the type to get all emotional, but one solitary tear came out of my left eye (I suspect it was just dust in the eye though shhhhhh).
Staring at him one day inspired me write this little piece. Enjoy. Please note: this is NOT a poem, I repeat NOT A POEM. Thanks.

THE GIFT

I had a dream
In which I was given a big blue box
Wrapped up with expensive ribbons
Complicated style
Almost in layers

As I touched it I felt happy
And at the same time scared
I wondered what the gift was
I undid the ribbons
My excitement immense
I could not wait to find out
I wasn't even scared anymore
Instead the more I touched the box
The more contented I felt
Almost euphoric

And then it spoke to me!
I nearly dropped it in shock
Boxes don't talk
It spoke again
A language I do not understand

Silence

There it was again...
It sounded gibberish

I opened my eyes
And there it was-
It wasn't a dream
The gift is YOU
Yabbing away at me in your baby talk
Looking at me with Love
Or maybe just telling me
snap out of it woman
Give me food!

  1. Children are our heritage from the Lord and the fruit of the womb is its reward . it is always an amazing experience. Talk to doctors that do it every day, and they experience it every time. It is spiritual. The amazement comes when they start to grow. Israel was 9lbs and some 23+ inches and now he is taller than me, weighs more than me and although I would never accept it to his face, he is physically stronger. I pray that these, ours will be taught of the Lord in the mighty name of Jesus. Lovely piece Funmi
